I dunno if it's just a figure of speech or something. But in the first part of GS on the beginning, after Sam leave's the schoolyard and before Jason asked Ginger out, she said to B "Do you think I'll let that idiots go away with fucking you up" or s.th. like that and then she said: "That's why the big Buddha made me!"
So, are the Fitzgeralds Buddhistic? Because I don't notice any other sign of that religious way... Did this sentence have a meaning at all?

Because I don't notice any other sign of that religious way... Did this sentence have a meaning at all? Well, with Fitzgerald being the name, the default religion would be Catholicism. Ginger saying "big Buddha" I think just shows she doesn't buy any of that shit. If she cared anything about Buddhism at all, she would know that Buddha isn't a creator, but that was likely her joke about it. She didn't care to know because it was all a joke to her. But their attitude about being "together forever" shows that they have some belief in eternal life. The bird-skull necklace shows something, besides fuck-you to everyone else, I just can't tell what. In my fanfic, they had dabbled with witchcraft, nothing serious, more as children playing "evil witches, and Ginger doesn't believe in prayer, but in that fanfic, Ginger is a "ghost," which has effected her view of eternal life.

Interesting. But yeah I agree with LH, I don't think she gives a shit. Maybe she's just trying to sound funny because she wouldn't say 'That's why God made me'. And yeah they're is a lot of Fitzgerald's in Ireland. I think its an Irish name. Because (My history could be wrong here but) Around the 1800's (i think) there was the Irish Potato famine, after that there wasn't much left in Ireland so they Emigrated (dont know if its immigrated of emigrated lol) to America. Which means The Fitzgeralds could have Irish/Catholic ancestry.. and also Ginger's red hair, pretty irish. Im probably wrong but this all just occured to me there now, a bit off topic maybe.

I really like your explanation of the matter, lordhowl! I think that's a really possible reason, because I couldn't make any sense out of it before...
So the Catholicism is a more possible religion and the explanation with the name is also comprehensible. Or, yeah, maybe they're just Atheists with belief in their friendship and blood bond... Since I didn't notice any sign of any religion in the house. Pam and Henry also didn't seem that religious.

Since I didn't notice any sign of any religion in the house. Pam and Henry also didn't seem that religious. The family name is just indicative of what their religious origin is, at least on their father's side. No, the family wasn't religious. That certainly doesn't come up. Pam doesn't wear a cross or anything. I take it, they didn't practice Catholicism, or whatever faith they had, and evidently didn't consider it important to do so. I'd say the sisters were a little to young to have made up their mind so much about being atheists, and they were definitely enamored with the notion of their friendship being eternal, and thought suicide would be an escape, so they believed, or at least were attracted to the notion of something spiritual. I don't think their spiritual beliefs were that well defined in their minds, though I can see them easily dabbling in Wicca.

They must have beleived they went somewhere though because they said that they'd be 'together forever' or is that just me thinking that?

@sophie
Yes, you're right, they believed it, if only by some "romantic" notion of it. It's also the likely reason why they would consider suicide. Then you have things in the slide show, such as their lying together "dead" holding hands. Almost more disturbing than it should be.
I don't think that their beliefs were that organized into anything like a religion, though. I could see Ginger sneering at the notion of a God, and she would ask the obvious question: why not a goddess?

Yeah! I love that pictures where they were lying together in the death slide show, that was really gross! And also a big sign of the bond between them - in living and even in dead. I think this was their way to show, that they really mean it, so you're right, sophie.

If you think about it, with all the remarks they presumably knew would be made (holding hands and all), it was very gutsy thing to do, to express it with that picture.

Absolutely! But I would also think that they did it on purpose, maybe even to provoke something.
