Also known as "poverty year" and "eighteen hundred and froze to death." 1815, the year of was the year that Mt. Tambora erupted, after four other volcanoes erupted over four years. They also have recent evidence from glacier cores that there was a another volcanic explosion that there is no record of. But by winter 1815, the temperatures were well below normal.
It caused major crop disasters, which, for one thing, caused settlers from New England to settle California.
It's just interesting that "the curse" would begin in 1815-- the beginning of three of the coldest years on record.

Hm that is interesting.
This also reminds me of a song. Do you listen to Rasputina? They have a song called "1816, the year without a summer." When ever I hear it I'm gonna think of GS now haha.
