Hi, I'm new! HUUUUUUUUUUGE fan of the movies (not so much the prequel but definately the first two). I'm a virgin poster to this board, so be gentle with me please. Anyway, I've been thinking about this scene from the first movie. The last scene of Sam alive, sitting against the wall drenched in blood, Ginger-wolf looks at Ginger and Brigitte drinks Sam's blood. Just wondering what your thoughts on this scene are and what it meant. Was it: A: Ginger's look at Brigitte as meaning "drink his blood or I will kill you" OR B: Ginger's look at Brigitte meaning "drink his blood and I will spare his life". I think (maybe it's just my opinion) that Ginger would have spared Sam if Brigitte had drank the blood (and not gotten sick). It might have been the last chance Ginger would offer Brigitte. Thoughts, anyone?

I really don't think Ginger would spare sam. As a matter of fact I actually think that by the time of the blood drinking it was already too late for him, he'd probably bleed to death within minutes.
What the whole thing meant.. that's a good question indeed. I think maybe Ginger tried to ask Brigitte if she was still with her. And she probably was, but Ginger was too animalistic, her primal savagery took Brigitte not drinking more blood as no, or maybe even a insult, who knows...

Highly interesting scene inviting a lot of interpretations. However, this what I find most interesting and evocative is this:
Fact: Ginger spared Sam. She could have killed Sam before Brigitte ever found her if she wanted Sam dead.
Interpretation: That Sam was even alive right then says something. It was either because she wanted him to suffer or wanted him to heal into a werewolf. I favor the latter, due to Ginger-wolf's later action of killing him swiftly.
Fact: The Ginger-wolf still recognized Brigitte and knew she was set to become a werewolf, and likely saw her as kin.
So, what I get from this is really weird and disturbing. Ginger-wolf wanted to form a pack with both Brigitte and Sam. A kind of menage a trios. And, drinking his blood was supposed to seal it. And yes, this is weird, disturbing and utterly twisted.
How was this communicated to Brigitte?
Interestingly, in that scene, she crawls up to Sam. First question on my mind is, why is she crawling? I realize that she knows Ginger could kill her and wants to show submission, but this is a strange gesture. Next, if you watch it, when she get up to Sam and looks at him, the expression she has is not sympathy, is not fear, it does not even look human. In that state, Ginger-wolf growls at her once, and she immediately begins drinking the blood. She absolutely understands what it told her.
Conclusion: Brigitte is infected. At that moment, under that stress, she was a werewolf, and Ginger-wolf was her kin and was dominant. Enthralled, Brigitte understood and obeyed her.
Then a few minutes later, Brigitte came out of it, and took a moral stand against this. So, the Ginger-wolf gets enraged and killed Sam off and tried to kill Brigitte. You could interpret this as Brigitte being somehow more moral than Ginger. However, in all fairness to Ginger, the werewolfism wasn't very strong or stable with Brigitte yet.
Of the many interesting things about this is one thought: in its twisted thinking, the Ginger-wolf had a scheme on how to save their sisterly bond post-puberty, and it was a sick, twisted solution: Share the same guy, and I'm not just talking about just sharing his blood.
Sexually speaking, it's a very disturbing scene.

I think it's really interesting what you said, never thought of that. That Ginger spared Sam because she could've easily killed him but she didn't. Personally I don't think she wanted Sam in her pack but might convince Brigitte to join her pack by sparing Sam. As for the crawling, I think she wanted to show Ginger that she wasn't above her and needed to be careful what she was doing. I think she wanted to show Ginger that she was in control in order to spare Sam and herself.

Maybe she was thinking like an animal and didn't expect too much, like he would join the pack. But they were sharing his blood. That had to have had some quasi-ceremonial significance. Fact is, Sam was-- well, hot. They had both been attracted to him. Ginger had also been jealous that Brigitte chose him. What better choice here, if you've become an amoral, crazed animal than to make him a member of the pack so they both could share him? Of course, nobody asked Sam. Kind of a gender-role reversal of being sold into slavery.

And I thought I looked into stuff too much. I tip my hat to you sir. Good day. I hope I didn't offend you Nat. This is all fantasy. As this was all in a movie, neither of us are in those character's head. You might say, that's the description I would put in if I were writing the scene in a novel. And it's based somewhat on "what is the most horrible, twisted thing Ginger could be doing?" as, you know, she was a monster by that time. I certainly have looked into this movie too much, but I try to compensate by using the characters in my writing. That's how I spread the curse. ;D And may the curse be with you.
