ok. after extensive and exhausting research I am now able to upgrade almost any DVD player to region free! Some DVD players are harder than others and require firmchip upgrades. while others you can simply input a numeric code. either way, I'm trying to make the playing field equal for all of us. I've had inquiries about UK boxsets and such...people telling me that they want the US boxset but don't have a R1 player. and everybody wants the Canadian Edition because it's got more than any other GS DVD. the plan is simple just PM me with the brand name and model number of your DVD player and I'll give you the code or send you a disc with the upgrades and instructions. just looking out for you guys.

all DVD players have a chip in them called a firm chip. the firm chip contains the formats for all 7 regions. Since DVD players are made in one part of the world and shipped to others they needed a way to program them accordingly. that's where the firm chip comes in. it's set to whatever region the player is being sent to. so you have to consider...if there is a way to set it for one region there has to be a way to change it to another. I've tracked down the list of firm chip codes for 40,000 different DVD players all over the world. some more involved than others to change the code..but all extremely simple. just send me the make and model of your DVD player and I can send you the code to make your DVD player Region 0. it does no harm to your player at all and can be changed back at any time.

I was just wondering...
when you change the region codes so that the player is region free, is there a known phenomena of the movies going black/white?

never heard of that happening...and havn't had any complaints yet...even if something unexpected like that did happen, the same code will change your DVD player back to it's normal coding.

Yes, a while ago, when I asked you for the codes to change the region on a Daewood player, It got black/white.. I did not bother ask more about that subject at that point... But later I thought it might be a known phenomena or something... The DVD was colored when I played it in my "custom zone free dvd player" but not when playing it in the coded Daewood..

Ah. I think I know what happened. I didn't have the exact model number for that Daewoo, remember. I told you I would check and see if I could get the exact one and gave you one for a different model number and you said it worked...that was probably it.

hmm, yeah.. guess so... the thing was that those I was visiting had only 24 kbit/sec modem, so it took some time to do stuff on the net, so I just did not bother, but we got to see it, even though it was black/white, and they loved Ginger Snaps..

Why are there regions anyway? I thought it was to discourage pirating but a friend of mine said it was 'cause of the different TV resolutions or something.

Guess there's regions just to make more money... would not surprise me.. The capitalism really sucks.

I think it does have to do with the different TV resolutions.

Actually Australia, Britain and some others have much higher TV resolutions then America. I think that translates into "We have better picture quality"
